In Argentina, a 30-year-old mother suffered a cardiac arrest while breastfeeding her two-month-old baby girl. Both are deceased.
- Early indications reveal that the mother, who suffered from severe hypertension, succumbed to a seizure.
- The mother would then have accidentally asphyxiated her baby, whom she was breastfeeding.
It is a heartbreaking story that took place this Monday in Corrientes, in the north of Argentina. Gabriel, a father, found his wife and baby daughter, only 2 months old, dead at his home. In a story told to the local media Todo Noticias (TN)he explains how he found his deceased baby in his mother’s arms, asphyxiated by her while she was breastfeeding him before succumbing to a devastating heart attack.
Severe hypertension
“I can’t believe why fate did this to us. I have to start my life over and I don’t know how to do it”, confided this 47-year-old Argentinian. However, Monday morning, nothing suggested that his day was going to turn into a nightmare. At 7:30 a.m., he left his home to go to work, as he does every day, kissing his wife and children. Her eldest daughter then went to visit her grandmother.
A few hours later, the family began to worry that the mother would not come to pick her up. Gabriel then tried several times to call his wife. His phone calls went unanswered, until his 3-year-old son picked up to explain that his mum was “sleeping and he can’t wake her up”. The father of the family hasimmediately thought of the worst”.
The autopsy in progress
Arriving home, he found his wife and granddaughter Delfina dead in the marital bed. “My baby was purple and my wife was coldhe revealed. It was horrible. I don’t wish this on anyone and I don’t understand why this happened to us.” An autopsy is underway to determine the exact reasons for the two deaths. Early indications reveal that the mother, who suffered from severe hypertension, succumbed to a seizure. She would then have accidentally asphyxiated her baby, whom she was breastfeeding.
Gabriel pointed out that the mother of his children has been suffering from depression since the accidental death of her younger brother in March. “Following the death of her brother, Mariana experienced a very strong emotional and nervous eventhe says. She had trouble moving for six days after that.”
