One in 5 French people is not up to date with their vaccines. One of the solutions to put an end to lost or incomplete health records could be the electronic health record, acclaimed by Marisol Touraine.
On the occasion of World Immunization Week which takes place from April 22 to 26, the Minister of Health presented the vaccination schedule on Tuesday. Without big changes compared to previous years, Marisol Touraine wanted to recall the importance of vaccination. Especially since nearly one in five French people is not up to date with their vaccinations and certain diseases reappear, such as measles. To remedy this, she pleaded once again for the establishment of an electronic vaccination record (CVE) associated with the Vitale card, a solution regularly acclaimed by health professionals.
An email as a reminder of the vaccine
The model in question was developed by Prof. Jean-Louis Koeck, head of the international vaccination center at the Robert Picqué Army Training Hospital (Bordeaux). It was first tested in the Aquitaine region, where the low vaccination rate is breaking records, but is now accessible to all French people on the Internet. It was also recently cited as an example in a Senate report on vaccine policy in 2013. “The Minister of Health was very favorable to the implementation of this type of booklet”, remembers the rapporteur Georges Labazée, senator of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
Asked the France 3 news this week, Professor Jean-Louis Koeck explains that “depending on your vaccination history, this tool will tell you whether or not you are up to date with your vaccines. The idea of this notebook is really to put the citizen at the center of the vaccination system and to protect him without blemish or excess. ”
90,000 vaccination records created
So how does this alert come about? It’s very simple, just register on the site mesvaccins.net or download the “my vaccines” application for free on your smartphone. By creating your account, you will receive emails before your vaccinations expire. However, for the moment, the French are not yet fully inclined to adopt the CVE. Only 90,000 electronic vaccination cards have been created. And only 6,000 healthcare professionals subscribe to the device.
