While the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 has been progressing laboriously since December 27, 2020, the ANSM takes stock of the side effects linked to immunization.
- Arterial hypertension, dizziness… ANSM lists the side effects of vaccines against Covid-19.
- To date, 1,479,909 French people have been partially vaccinated against the coronavirus, out of 67 million.
“To date, there is no confirmed signal of safety with vaccines against Covid-19”. In a press release dated January 29, the ANSM (National Medicines Safety Agency) a new point on the immunization campaign against the coronavirus launched in France a little over a month ago.
659 cases of adverse effects
Based on French pharmacovigilance data validated by the ANSM from December 27, 2020 to January 22, 2021, a total of 659 cases of adverse effects were analyzed. “The new data do not allow to conclude on the potential signal raised the week of January 21, 2021 regarding the risk of tachycardia”, begin the experts.
In addition, a total of 10 cases of arterial hypertension have been reported with a favorable evolution in a few minutes or a few hours (this event is under surveillance). 5 cases of vestibular damage (dizziness when changing position) were also identified.
The analysis of the cases of adverse effects reported to date for patients with a history of Covid‐19 does not reveal any specificity compared to the effects adverse reactions occurring in vaccinated people with no known history of Covid-19, except for a higher proportion of non-serious systemic reactogenicities (fever, fatigue, headache, chills, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.). “These cases will be given special attention. continues the ANSM.
Concerning more particularly the Moderna vaccine, a few cases of adverse effects, all non-serious, have been reported.

“There is nothing to conclude that the deaths reported are linked to vaccination”
Finally, new cases of death were declared and analyzed during this follow-up period. These are elderly people residing in EHPADs or old-age residences, most of whom had serious comorbidities. Some people were followed in a palliative care unit. “Given the current data, there is no reason to conclude that the deaths reported are linked to vaccination”, says the health agency.
The European Union has placed orders for 6 different coronavirus vaccines. 3 are authorized (Pfizer, Moderna, Astra Zeneca), and 3 have not yet been studied. To date, 1,479,909 French people have been partially vaccinated, out of 67 million. It remains to vaccinate at least 57.79% of French people before reaching a vaccination rate of 60%, the threshold targeted by epidemiologists to achieve collective immunity (Source: CovidTracker / Ministry of Health).
