A costume that gets people talking. To raise awareness of women’s health issues such as unequal access tomenstrual hygieneAcross the world, Kelly Kinsella and her friend, a couple living in Brooklyn, have designed a giant vagina costume.
Delirious or shocking for some, these anthropomorphic vaginas are a way of drawing attention to a little-discussed problem of access to menstrual care. To raise funds for this cause, the costume is sold under the brand Conceived in Brooklyn on the site conceivedinbk.com/ for the sum of 149 dollars (approximately 134 dollars).
Support of an association for women’s rights
This initiative touted as “vagactivism” (vagina contraction and activism for those who would not have understood), is supported by the association 50 cents Period which campaigns for women’s rights, the end of discrimination and equal access of women to healthcare during their period in disadvantaged countries. For each vagina costume sold, 10 dollars (about 9 euros) will be donated to the collective.
