Two Citroën Xantia drivers with Hydractive suspension, little concerned with any notion of safety, set off at 200 km / h on an open road with one wheel less. And they filmed themselves to share their “feat” with as many people as possible.
Ever since Citroën demonstrated, at the time of the first DS of the name, that its hydropneumatic suspension made it possible to drive on three wheels (a trick that made it possible both to get to safety after a puncture and to change a tire without jack), we can no longer count the number of experiments carried out by amateurs to repeat the operation. Most often, these are low-speed demonstrations that make people smile. The situation is quite different for the two Xantia drivers who recently filmed themselves driving three wheels at full speed.
An underground race on three wheels
In the middle of a desert on a highway, the two acolytes therefore set off, each at the wheel of a white Citroën Xantia with Hydractive suspension, in a race at top speed. They end up reaching 200 km / h despite a lane keeping which sometimes seems tricky, some irregularities on the surface and, above all, traffic to be avoided since the road, even if it is rarely used, is open to traffic.
A dangerous challenge
It is clear that the two chevron sedans perform their task brilliantly, until their drivers quietly stop on the side. Hats off to Citroën engineers, but we will leave it to the manufacturers’ development drivers to carry out these tests not only prohibited on open roads but extremely dangerous, for those who are behind the wheel as well as for others. Since the discontinuation of the second generation C5 in 2017, Citroën has stopped offering hydropneumatic suspension, replaced by a damping with hydraulic stops.
