The mission is almost secret so as not to fall into the water on D-Day. On Saturday June 27, several drones will land in the Polish town of Slubice, on the border with Germany. We do not know the exact location where the curious convoy plans to land, but we do know what it will transport. The Women on Waves association, which supplies abortion pills throughout the world, has equipped drones with these pills to allow Polish women to abort safely. These drugs have been approved by the World Health Organization.
The procedure is unusual enough to be emphasized. Normally, the collective carries out its mission by sending it by post. This is the first time that drones will be used to deliver abortion pills. Their journey will be between Frankfurt in Germany and Slubice in Poland.
Once disembarked, the loads of pills will be taken by women activists and relays of the operation, who will hand the treatments individually into the hands of the Poles who wish abort.
Strictly limited abortion
In Poland, abortion has been strictly regulated since 1993. It is only authorized in cases of danger to the mother, serious malformation of the fetus, or pregnancy linked to rape or incest. An estimated 50,000 illegal abortions take place each year in the country. Hundreds of Polish women also go to England every year to benefit from a voluntary termination of pregnancy under good conditions.
