Darryl Rowe, a 26-year-old British hairdresser, is appearing in court in Brighton, southern England. He is accused of having consciously infected his partners with the AIDS virus. He would have infected at least 4 men and tried to infect 6 others.
In April 2015, Darryl Rowe learned he was HIV positive. Doctors believe he is coping well with the shock of the diagnosis. But they are worried about his refusal to be vaccinated against common diseases such as pneumonia and above all he refuses to take antiretrovirals, which can slow down the development of the virus and make the patient less contagious.
Messages to taunt its partners
After this diagnosis, the Briton was dating men through the dating app Grindr. He is accused of having insisted on having unprotected sex, claiming not to be a carrier of the virus. If his partners refused, he discreetly pierced the condom before the act.
After the dates, he taunted his partners by message or by phone. “Maybe you have a fever. I cum inside you and I have HIV. LOL. Oops ”is the message one of them received. To another, he declares on the phone: “I ripped the condom. You’re so stupid. You didn’t even realize it ”, as reported The Guardian.
The judge guaranteed the anonymity to the victims who will be able to testify behind a screen, so as not to have to face Darryl Rowe. The accused denies the charges, the prosecutor describes, for her part, a “cynical” individual. The trial is expected to last six weeks.
