But according to a new study from the University of Aberdeen (UK) and the Beijing Academy of Sciences (China), it would also be possible to classify “traditional” sugars among themselves.
The researchers – who published their work in the specialized journal Molecular Metabolism – carried out an experiment with two groups of mice: the first group consumed sugar in solid form (powdered sugar, etc.), the second in liquid form (with a drink 5 times sweeter than soda).
Sugary drinks, worse for your health than solid sugar
Verdict? After 2 months, the mice in the second group were found to be more insulin resistant and had gained more weight than the mice in the first group.
What to think of it? “These data confirm the significant role of sugary drinks in the development of obesity and insulin resistance,” say the researchers.
