Restoring the action of insulin is one of the keys to fighting diabetes
type 2. To achieve this, researchers from Inserm and the University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier have developed a therapeutic strategy which uses an enzyme exerting a beneficial effect on the action of insulin by stimulating the synthesis of fatty acids in fat cells. Their work has been published in the journal Nature Metabolism.
This enzyme (called hormone-sensitive lipase) converts fat into acids
fat and releases them into the bloodstream. By decreasing this enzyme, scientists found that it led to better insulin response, a sign of good health for the cells.
In France, the prevalence of diabetes is estimated at more than 5% of the population in 2015 and the Type 2 diabetes corresponds to 90% of cases. To these figures are added the people diabetics who ignore each other, especially among overweight or obese women and men.
