For several decades, the rate of declaration of tuberculosishas steadily declined thanks to treatment and improved living conditions. In France, the number of declared cases has gradually increased from 9.9 per 105 inhabitants in 2003 to 7.3 cases per 105 inhabitants in 2014. But since 2015, the number of tuberculosis cases has started to rise again, particularly in Ile-de-France. -de-France, according to a study by Public Health France published in the latest Weekly epidemiological bulletin.
1927 cases reported in 2017
“The populations affected by this increase are those suffering the most from precariousness and promiscuity, in particular people born abroad, in collective accommodation or homeless and those who have recently arrived in France” emphasize the authors. A total of 1,758 cases of tuberculosis have been declared in Île-de-France in 2015, 1,809 in 2016 and 1927 in 2017.
The largest increase was observed in Paris, where the incidence rate rose from 13.5 cases per 105 inhabitants in 2015 to 16.8 cases in 2017, an increase of 23.4%. Young adults aged 15 to 24, and more particularly men, are the most affected. “These results probably reflect the overrepresentation of men in various groups at risk of tuberculosis, especially among the homeless and people living in communities “ emphasize the authors.
