The lack of sleep is bad for your health but also for your potential of seduction and your social attractiveness, according to the results of a study published in the medical journal The Royal Society.
Researchers at New York University in the United States and the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden tested 25 volunteers for lack of sleep.
The members of this group were photographed, twice, after two consecutive nights of recovering sleep (approximately 7.5 hours) and two successive nights of poor quality sleep (approximately 4.25 hours).
All subjects were dressed the same and could not wear makeup.
Lack of sleep affects your physique
Next, the researchers showed the photos to a group of 122 volunteers they called “evaluators.” These people were asked to judge the subjects on attractiveness, health, drowsiness and reliability.
They were also asked if they would like to meet and share time with the person in the photo.
The results of the study showed that tired subjects seemed less attractive than rested people and that, in general, they did not make people want to socialize with them. They were considered to be in poor health and unreliable.
While this study did not provide the reason why a lack of sleep undermines attractiveness, the researchers speculated that blood flow to the skin is strongly promoted by a quality night. Perhaps the lack of sleep results in restricted blood flow to the skin, which would make us paler and more tired, hence less attractive.
