What to choose between a low carbohydrate diet and a low fat diet? According to an American study, the two would be equivalent. However, all the studies that are published do not contradict the known and above all effective rules. To lose weight, you have to eat less, but above all better …
Simple and obvious rules
To lose weight, you must first eat less; All those who claim the contrary are mistaken; and above all are lying to you! The temptation would be to start fasting first. It makes sense, but not very smart. Your body is much more accustomed to starvation than you are. You will often hear me repeat, throughout these councils, that we are precisely the survivors of the famines of the prehistory, and that in a few hundred generations, our brains, our cells, imagined very sophisticated scenarios to allow us to survive. These emergency procedures are imprinted in our DNA, this intimate bar code, building plan of every body.
The body knew how to tame starvation… A situation not fully mastered, unfortunately because we are not as efficient as the groundhog which can winter for months…
We, our reaction which allows man to go several weeks without eating, is to “self-consume”; And we devour everything! Our reserves of sugar and fat, of course, but also of muscle, and not always in the right order. This is the reason why, even with keeping the drink, hunger strikes are so painful and above all dangerous.
Especially no “single product” diets!
A temptation, into which the “miracle diet makers” have entered, that of consuming only one category of food, to deceive the brain. Often with success. But the illusion only lasts for the time of deprivation. The brain quickly pays the bill, as soon as a normal diet returns, which is still the rule because, socially and dietetically, it is impossible to consume the same thing beyond a few weeks. In response, our body replenishes stocks, beyond what is needed, to be ready in case another stupid decision is made by the body owner! This is the explanation of the “yoyo” phenomenon. We lose a little … We take back a lot!
To lose weight, you have to eat less and especially balanced.
Eating better is eating a balanced diet. The first weeks of weight loss are very effective if you eat, without cheating, a little less, and you increase through exercise, the “boiler draft”. But inevitably there will be a slight stagnation. So to go further in weight loss and especially to win (almost) definitely the fight, we must now be interested in the quality of what we put in the boiler.
It’s amazing how most people – especially men – take care of the family vehicle. Would it occur to them to use diesel when the car is running on gasoline? No, of course! However, when it comes to fueling the engine of your own body, or that of your children, these basic precautions have disappeared. Knowing what is not good for the human machine, what is indispensable, what is superfluous, is not a colossal job. You have to devote a little time to it. Failing to get rid of all the bad habits, which are sometimes written in our genes, we must ensure that the main dietary errors have become obvious …
Eating balanced is first of all to be careful! The fold is taken quite easily and the “dietetically correct” taste solutions are endless …
But we will have to learn to recognize and favor healthy foods. And limit those who will make us fat every time
Low fat or low carbohydrate diet? How to choose ?
It’s a real debate. A new study carried out at Stanford University School of Medicine shows that the two regimes are equal.
609 men and women, aged 18 to 50 were divided into two groups. For twelve months, the former followed a low-carbohydrate diet, the other a low-fat diet. Their diet was healthy despite these restrictions, that is, they did not consume soda for those on a low fat diet, or bacon for those on a low sugar diet.
“We asked everyone, regardless of diet, to shop at the market and not buy processed food. We also advised them to make sure they did not feel hungry or deprived, by adjusting their diet, ”says Christopher Gardner, one of the study’s lead authors. Tests were carried out before and after the diet, on insulin and genotype in particular.
The health benefits
At the end of the twelve months, the average weight loss was 12 kilograms. But this had no effect on their genotype, nor on their average insulin level. Neither diet can therefore be considered better for your health.
For American scientists, this study shows above all the interest of a healthier diet, less rich in sugar and processed products: “For both groups, we have had as feedback the people who have lost the most weight, that we have helped them to change their relationship to food and that now they are more thoughtful and conscientious in the way they eat ”.
