This virus is part of the family of thogotovirus, specify the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This is the first time that a virus in this group has killed a human being. and only the eighth known case of infection with a thogotovirus that causes symptoms in people.
In the days before his death, the man had been repeatedly bitten by ticks. Doctors who treated him in Kansas found a parasite swollen with blood attached to his shoulder.

His state of health deteriorated rapidly. The first symptoms, which appeared a few days after the bites, included a headache with fever. Antibiotics have been shown to be ineffective. The patient could no longer breathe on his own and his kidney functions were seriously damaged. He died eleven days after the onset of symptoms.
As the results of numerous tests for a large number of infectious diseases were negative, a sample of the patient’s blood was sent to a CDC lab for further analysis. CDC researchers determined it to be a new virus, after using advanced molecular detection technology (AMD).
The tick is responsible around the world for another potentially dangerous condition called Lyme disease. This chronic infection results in the formation of erythemas (red plaques) which can affect all organs.
