Emma Yang isn’t just a computer genius. She is also a 14 year old girl with a heart on her hands. Very close to her grandmother, she decided to come to her aid in order to help her to live better with the Alzheimer’s diseasediagnosed when Emma was 7 years old. The ravages of the disease on Memorymarked her childhood memories: “I saw closely how this disease could affect not only the person who suffers from it, but also those around him – his friends, his family”, she tells the site Mashable. To best help her grandmother, she put her coding skills at the service of the development of an application that could facilitate the daily life of all Alzheimer’s patients. Timeless is the project that should see the light of day if Emma Yang raises enough funds, especially on the participatory fundraising platform.
Facial recognition
Timeless offers users with Alzheimer’s disease to stay close to those around them by helping them remember their faces. Facial recognition will work by drawing on photos from the phone’s directory, for example, and recalling the links between the person whose face is displayed on the screen with the user. The application can also serve as a “reminder” by recalling the meetings with the photos of the people concerned.
A start-up based in Miami, Florida has expressed interest in designing the artificial intelligence necessary to make Emma Yang’s project a reality. Timeless could see the light of day by the end of the year.
