The Power of the Dog is a masterpiece and all major film festivals see it too, as Netflix’s film breaks a monster record.
Despite exquisite content, Netflix has been lagging behind in Oscar ratings for years. The wildly popular western The Power of the Dog may change that. And the decision was made by the North Dakota Film Society, who doesn’t know!
The Power of the Dog shatters record
At the listed awards, the film starring Benedict Cumberbatch took home the coveted ‘Best Picture’ award. That in itself says very little, but the fact that the film has already done it 20 times before makes it a record.
The Power of the Dog has now bagged 21 Best Picture wins at major film festivals, Zo reports Variety. This makes it the most acclaimed film from Netflix within the award circuit ever. Previously, Roma was in this place with 20 wins.
Despite the new record for Netflix, it remains to be seen whether the streaming giant’s constant dream will come true. The Oscars will take place at the end of March and so far there are several highly respected films in the running for the Oscar, Best Picture.
The run-up to the biggest film awards usually doesn’t say much. It happens again and again that movies those film festivals dominate eventually come out disappointed. After all, the Oscars are not only an award for pure quality, but also for political impact and popularity among a wider audience.
The Power of the Dog is now available on Netflix.
