A team of researchers from the Australian Traffic Accident Commission (TAC) imagined what a human body capable of withstanding car crashes would look like. And the result is worth the detour.
A body capable of withstanding the most violent shocks
In a car accident, the many blows cause different pressures on the human body which, in the most serious cases, lead to death. Corn What would a human be like whose body could withstand all these shocks, however violent they might be? This is the question asked by a team of Australian researchers. With the help of an artist, Patricia Piccinini, a trauma surgeon and an expert in road accidents, they managed to draw the contours of an extraordinary human body.
A neckless body, with flexible knees, thick skin, a big skull, a flat face and a lot of fat. Made from resin, silicone and ice fiber, Graham, that’s the name it’s been given, was on display this summer at the Victoria State Bookstore in Melbourne.
Improve our road network
” Graham’s skull is much bigger than ours “, explains Patricia Piccinini. ” It’s almost made like a helmet and has recessed crumpled areas that help absorb impact energy “. Those who are more intrigued can take a closer look at the specimen on a dedicated site.
” Cars have evolved much faster than humans and Graham helps us understand why we need to improve every aspect of our road network to protect ourselves from our mistakes. ”, Detailed in a statement Joe Calafiore, director of the Australian Commission of the road accidents. It is not so much the aspect of Graham that is interesting to study but at what level shocks do the most damage in an accident.
