Are you already bored with the bevy of racing games out there? In 2022 there are again a number of cool racing games on the schedule.
In terms of racing games, the climate itself is fine at the moment. PlayStation owners have been able to enjoy Gran Turismo 7 since early this year, while Xbox racing gamers recently got Forza Horizon 5 and other titles to enjoy as well.
New racing games for 2022
But it may not be your thing. Or that you have already finished the games and are eagerly waiting for a new version. We have listed a few large (and a few small) racing games that you can expect in 2022.
Forza Motorsport (2022)
- Release: autumn 2022
- Platform: Xbox
There was a time when you could expect a Forza game every year. One year Forza Motorsport, then Forza Horizon (the Open World version of Forza), then Motorsport again, and so on. Both Motorsport and Horizon have enjoyed three titles for the Xbox One consoles (and a few for PC). Now, though, it’s time for a serious new era Forza game that takes full advantage of the Xbox Series X. That’s Forza Motorsport. Officially it is not called Forza Motorsport 8 while that will be logical. We’ve already seen a few trailers and we can expect a slick game graphically. As far as gameplay is concerned, we expect the same kind of approach as the predecessor: a whole bunch of cars, about fifty realistic circuits and a combination of arcade and simulation. Not a very realistic simulator but being able to adjust and measure things with an eye for things. We expect Forza Motorsport sometime in the late 2022.
F1 2022
- Release: mid 2022
- Platform: PC (PlayStation and Xbox probably)
One of the few surprising racing games in 2022. The game F1 changes just as much as the real F1. The game is therefore annually based on the real F1 season. The game for 2022 will therefore be released somewhere in the middle of the year. For the most gameplay, you can easily focus on the current F1 2021 game. What’s going to make the 2022 version slightly different is that new rules have been put into effect in real F1 this year. So expect different looking cars and new rules, just like the real drivers.
Need for Speed
- Release: end of 2022
- Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox
We’re not 100 percent sure there’s a new Need for Speed coming, but EA and other sources are rumored to be working on it. Should the game be released in 2022, we expect it around November. In line with the previous NFS games, you can expect an Open World game where the eternal battle of street racer against police takes center stage. Modifications to cars will weigh heavily. We hope to learn more about Need for Speed soon.
Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown
- Release: September 22, 2022
- Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox
Then a game that has been gone for a number of years but makes a graceful return. There have been two versions of the Open World racing game Test Drive Unlimited. The company behind TDU2 went bankrupt and stopped supporting the game. Also, the game has never been re-released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. That’s about to change. Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown will be released at the end of 2022. We expect a similar approach to the predecessors, but with a new look. As in the previous game, cars, lifestyle, wealth and everything else are central, given that there are several casino games to be seen in the trailer alone. The location of the game is also already known: Hong Kong.
The Crew 3
- Release: nnb
- Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox
In addition to Forza and GranTurismo, another racing game recently made a splash. The spiritual successor to TDU2 was The Crew to some extent. Open World again, on a gigantic map of the US which provided a great deal of freedom. The second part was developed by a different developer, but kept the approach of the first part. The Crew 2 also focused on sailing and flying, with boats and planes in addition to cars. There was talk between nose and lips about The Crew 3. We are again not one hundred percent sure whether the release of the latest Crew is in 2022. If the leaks are correct we will see a new playing area and of course new cars and better graphics.
CarX Street
- Release: September 8, 2022
- Platform: PC (Xbox and PlayStation probably)
Recently, a game from an unknown studio with an unknown purpose was released: CarX Drift. A somewhat simple game that is all about one thing: drifting. Logical, right? That makes it a bit one trick pony† That’s going to change. The makers of CarX Drift are now going to make a game called CarX Street. With the basics of CarX Drift but as an Open World racing game. It has already been confirmed that you can collect cars in garages, houses and all the fun things that make a lifestyle-style game fun. The game will be released in September.
