A few months ago, the rapporteur of the Health Bill to the National Assembly tabled two amendments intended to put a stop to in the race for thinness in the middle of the mannequins.
The first proposal sought to prohibit modeling agencies from using young women whose body mass index (BMI) is less than 18.
Second proposal: apply the words “retouched silhouette” to all magazine photos retouched using software.
During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the senators examined these amendments and decided to remove any notion of body mass index, to prefer to introduce the role of occupational physician.
“Anorexia nervosa concerns 40,000 people in France,” said Senator Alain Vasselle (the Republicans). “But the problem cannot be understood by a simple mathematical criterion,” he said. “Will we define a BMI threshold by profession?”
Instead, the senator passed an amendment providing that “occupational medicine checks that the working conditions of the model do not endanger his state of health and growth and may prescribe all relevant measures”.
