According to a survey by Public Health France, the Nutri-score, which is nutritional labeling, is experiencing growing success, going from 58% in 2018 to 93% in 2020.
The Nutri-score, a tool appreciated by the French
Created in 2017, the Nutri-score allows consumers to assess the overall nutritional quality of products. Public Health France has carried out several investigations since his arrival and the results of the last investigation, carried out in September 2020, have been made public. Out of 1001 French people, 57% were aware of the Nutri-Score logo in September 2020 and have changed their purchasing habits (compared to 43% in June 2019). They changed brands for the same product (39%, i.e. +16 points compared to May 2019). In the same department, the French chose a product with a better score (36%, +12 points) and limited purchases of products with poor scores (34%, +11 points). Finally, they decided to permanently change certain eating habits (35%, +10 points). In addition, 94% of French people say they are in favor of the presence of the logo on packaging and 89% think that Nutri-score should be made compulsory on all products.
Nutri-score, companies and notoriety
Awareness of the Nutri-score rose to 93% in 2020 (compared to 58% in 2018). The health agency indicates that ” communication campaigns and the deployment of the Nutri-Score logo on on-shelf and online packaging on e-commerce sites strongly contributed to this increase. In May 2018, around forty companies were involved, they are more than 500 today “.
” The positive evolution of the indicators confirms that the Nutri-Score can play a role in the purchasing habits of the French. In addition to the role of the communication campaigns led by Public Health France and the educational information provided by many players, our results indicate that this progression is mainly linked to the greater visibility of the logo, in particular on the packaging of food products. »Concludes Anne-Juliette Serry, head of the Food and Physical Activities unit at Public Health France.
