One of the most beautiful Renault ever, the Renault 4, has been converted and can now fly. And how cool does this look!
The French car manufacturer is known for playing the nostalgic card with iconic models. Like the 5, which has been redesigned as a modern EV. However, the company takes that to a whole other level with the Air4, a literal flying car version of the cult Renault 4 hatchback.
Renault 4 that can fly
Not only can the car fly, the design is also very successful. Renault teamed up with Miami-based design firm TheArsenale to create a human-sized drone with an updated version of the 4 on it. The concept marks the 60th anniversary of the Renault 4 and aims to show where the brand stands 60 years later. “AIR4 is a symbol of independence and freedom, born of the realization that traffic is increasing, lives come to a standstill and the world above us is unhindered,” Renault wrote.
To keep it as light as possible, the body is made entirely of carbon fiber. Important of course with a drone, what it actually is. It has a 22,000 mAh battery (without voltage) that provides 90,000 mAh of total power. Thrust is given as 95 kg, or 209 pounds per propeller, for a total lift capacity of approximately 840 pounds.
really works
Don’t think it’s a concept that will be in an exhibition. No, it can actually fly. The driver enters by lifting the entire body from the front. It can take off at 31 MPH (currently limited to 9 MPH) and fly around at speeds of up to 58 MPH. This is about 85 kilometers per hour.
