The Ile-de-France lactarium, housed by Necker hospital in Paris, has suspended “as a precaution” the delivery of breast milk following a suspicion of contamination of three very premature babies, two of whom died, said on Saturday the Assistance Publique-Hospitals of Paris (AP-HP).
Indeed, the three children had been partly fed by breast milk delivered by the lactarium of Necker, but the AP-HP recalls that “it is not possible to affirm that this milk is at the origin of the contamination, but it is also not possible to exclude it at this stage “.
Asked about this to the Grand Jury “RTL-LCI-Le Figaro, Marisol Touraine, Minister of Health indicated that” from tomorrow, an inspection of the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM) will be carried out on site in the lactarium and the services concerned to try to identify what happened “.
Parents of premature babies should not be alarmed
“We have no certainty, we cannot rule it out, that is why as a precaution the distribution of milk was suspended,” said the Minister. But parents of premature babies need not worry.
“There is a guaranteed supply of milk from other whey, in particular that of Marmande (Lot-et-Garonne), the largest lactarium in France”.
If some mothers cannot breastfeed or have insufficient milk flow to feed their premature infants, maternities call on a milk bank, a lactarium, supplied by the milk of other breastfeeding mothers.
