For all these patients, there are hospital hotels that welcome them in convalescence. They are now in charge of the sick. Olivier Véran proposes that this system be developed and that the State and the mutuals reimburse these nights of rest. Throughout the stay, a team of nurses will accompany the patients.
An extremely economical solution
To measure the costs for the State and the mutuals of the hospital hotel, the letter of the economic and financial decision-makers of the hospitals simulated several scenarios.
They measured the financial burden of hospitalization for a 5-day stay in hospital or in a hospital hotel.
In the first case, the patient occupies a hospital room for the duration of the stay. In the second case, the patient spends 2 days in a hotel, one preoperatively, the other postoperatively and 3 days in hospital.
If the health insurance covers 100% of the stay, it saves 2806.1 euros, per stay, if it reimburses 80% of the hospitalizations it reduces its costs by 2598 euros per patient.
