Loire-Atlantique: From Monday, call 15 before going to the emergency room at night

In an attempt to reduce the hospital tensions recorded since the beginning of the year, in particular due to the influenza epidemic, the ARS Pays de la Loire announced in a press release The establishment of a new measurement, in parallel with the outbreak of the white plan in certain hospitals.

Access to emergencies in Loire-Atlantique will be regulated at night from Monday, January 13.

Access to regulated emergency services between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. in Loire-Atlantique

“Concretely, between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., excluding vital emergency, any patient who has not been sent by a health professional (doctor, dentist or midwife) will first have to call 15 before going to the emergency room”explains the ARS Pays de la Loire.

The regional health authorities add that this device has the objective “To secure the care of patients, to guide them according to their need and to preserve the working conditions of emergency professionals at night”.
This measure is expected to be in force until February 24, 2025 “To cover the epidemic period and winter school holidays”.
These temporary access methods concern adult, pediatric and psychiatric emergency services of all the establishments in the territory, public and private. That’s to say :

• CHU de Nantes;
• CH of Saint-Nazaire;
• CH of Châteaubriant-Nozay-Pouancé;
• CH Erdre et Loire (Ancenis);
• Private Confluent Hospital.

Patients who will present themselves directly to the emergency room without prior medical advice, will have access to a phone on site to call the center 15 and be put in touch with an emergency doctor.

Access to emergencies: How is the patient oriented?

During the call, the Center 15 regulator regulating the patient’s situation assessed several questions about the situation. Depending on the patient’s state of health, he will direct him to the emergency services or another suitable care service:

• the medical care house (or the reception and permanence center of care) until midnight;
• SOS doctors;
• An appointment for a consultation of non-programmed care with a general practitioner close to his home or in the hospital within 24 hours to 48 hours;
• A meeting in the emergency room the next day;
• A delayed meeting for benign traumatology;
• his attending physician.

“To absorb an additional call in Center 15 in connection with the implementation of regulated access, we set up reinforcements of medical regulators, general practitioners and medical regulation assistants”specifies Joël Jenvrin, medical director of the SAMU 44. ARS also recalls the good practices to follow in the face of a degraded state of health. It’s necessary :

• In the event of symptoms, see priority his attending physician, if there is no emergency;
• In the event of unavailability of the attending physician, consult another health professional (pharmacist, nearby health center) or contact 116,117 (or SOS doctors at 36,64 in covered areas, namely Nantes and Saint-Nazaire) for be oriented;
• In the event of an emergency, and if no other solution is available, contact 15 (114 for the hearing impaired).
