November 23, 2017.
The first epidemics of gastroenteritis have just been reported. Be careful if you live in the Hauts de France, in the Grand-Est, in the Pays de la Loire and in Paca, these regions are particularly affected by this winter disease.
The Paca region is the most affected by gastroenteritis
Gastroenteritis is making a big comeback in France. According to the information gathered by the Sentinelles network, which monitors the evolution of winter diseases throughout France, 4 regions have just crossed the epidemic threshold, reached when there are more than 170 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
During the week of November 13 to 19, 203 cases per 100,000 inhabitants were identified in the Hauts de France. 207 cases per 100,000 inhabitants were diagnosed in Pays de la Loire, just ahead of the Grand Est (205 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). It is in the Paca region that the epidemic threshold is the highest today (228 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).
The first flu arrives in Normandy
The gastroenteritis epidemic will of course not stop there and the Sentinels network announces that ” according to the forecast model based on historical data, acute diarrhea activity level is expected to continue to increase over the next few weeks “.
In a few weeks, the gastroenteritis will be joined by the first flu. A few cases were reported to the Sentinels network during the same week (19 per 100,000 inhabitants), or well below the epidemic threshold. However, it is in Normandy that most cases have been recorded (38 per 100,000 inhabitants), in Île-de-France (37 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) and in Paca (28 per 100,000 inhabitants).
