If the French are less sedentary, since they were 46% in 2012 not to practice sporting activities and 43% in 2013, this survey reveals that in 2015 nearly four in ten French people (38%) admit n ‘have done sports.
Among those surveyed participating in a sport, 32% say they exercise one or two hours a week, 16% say they do three to four hours a week, and a minority (14%) say they exercise for more than five hours.
On the other hand, this survey tells us that men are more athletic than women. They are only 35% not to practice physical activities.
These results confirm the findings of a study published in the medical journal Health Psychology Review. She revealed that for limit sedentary lifestyleit would be easier to reduce the time spent sitting than to put people in sport. And that it would seem as effective to educate the population about the health benefits of reducing the time spent sitting as to encourage them to take part in physical activity.
Sedentary lifestyle, a real public health problem
People spend too much time sitting and this increase in sedentary lifestyle worries the authorities, because to keep fit and preserve health, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends taking 10,000 steps per day. The benefits of physical activity are indeed scientifically proven. Regular sports practice can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer by up to 39%, the risk of developing colorectal cancer by 26%, the risk of having a stroke by 25% and the risk of diabetes is 34%. Sedentary lifestyle is today the 4th risk factor for mortality in the world after high blood pressure, smoking and diabetes.
