The latest weekly bulletin from Santé Publique France reports approximately 1,800 deaths attributable to the influenza epidemic since the start of surveillance. Since the start of monitoring, 815 outbreaks of acute respiratory infections have been reported in communities of elderly people. A total of 14,000 passages for influenza or influenza-like illness and 2,171 hospitalizations were recorded, figures slightly up on the previous week (+13% and +16% respectively). Spina bifida: babies operated on in their mother’s womb
In the United Kingdom, two pregnant women underwent an operation last summer that was not directly intended for them: teams of doctors intervened to operate on their future child for a malformation linked to a defect in the closure of the neural tube in the lower back. Suicide among cannabis users
Cannabis use in adolescents has been linked to an increased risk of depression and suicidal behavior in young adults, according to a meta-analysis published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry. These conclusions were drawn on the basis of several studies, including a total of 23,317 people.
