Australian researchers have tested the effectiveness of homeopathy on 68 pathologies. It would not be more effective than the placebo. And researchers are warning about the danger of homeopathic vaccination.
Homeopathy would not be more effective than a placebo.
This is what emerges from a review of the literature carried out by a committee of independent Australian medical experts. They measured the effectiveness of homeopathic treatments in 68 different pathological situations: asthma, arthritis, sleep disorders, colds, flu, eczema, burns, malaria, heroin addiction… No less than 343 scientific studies published between 2007 and 2013 have been scrutinized. The researchers kept 57 after analyzing the quality of the work.
According to the Australian journal of the NHMRC (Australian National Council for Research in Health and Medicine), homeopathy would therefore have no impact on people in poor health.
Professor John Dwyer, immunologist and professor of medicine at the University of New South Wales said: “We understand of course the placebo effect. In particular, we know that several short-term illnesses are cured by the body itself. It is then very easy for sick people to fall into the trap of believing that the improvement comes from mediation A or B. “
The danger of homeopathic vaccination
Professor John Dwyer, in particular warned against the dangers of using homeopathy for vaccination.
Professor Richard Choong, president of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) of Western Australia told the Australian Guardian that “homeopathy is not a science, it is not based on scientific research”. “In many cases, people’s lives can be put on the line, vaccination is a case in point.”
The two professors called for an end to the legitimation of homeopathy, including reimbursement by insurance and sale in pharmacies.
