The controversy continues to swell. In June 2018, scandalized Internet users relayed on Twitter the website of Dr. Jean-Yves Henry, a French general practitioner, homeopath and acupuncturist who practices in Switzerland.
The problem ? Completely anachronistic remarks: “homosexuality is not a pathology, but a particular symptom (choice of life) of ‘border-line’ patients (interesting personalities elsewhere). acting on the exacerbation of these symptoms. “
As a reminder, in France, homosexuality is no longer considered a psychiatric pathology since 1981.
On his site, Médecine Intégrée, the doctor (born in 1947 and graduated from the University of Bordeaux) claims to be able to “remedy” homosexuality thanks to homeopathy: Argentum Nitricum for boys suffering from a “gift of juanism” , characterized by a “multiplication of love experiences for fear of missing something”, Platina in the case of “problematic of seduction and domination” with “added hysterical aspect”. For girls “domineering and jealous, with revenge to take”, Lachesis.
Homosexuality, a disease? “It’s completely delusional”
The reactions of professionals are unanimous: “It is not because you are a doctor that you do not tell nonsense. […], according to Dr. Charles Bentz, president of the national union of homeopathic doctors. It’s completely delusional, homosexuality has never been a disease ”.
“If a young person thinks that his homosexuality is pathology, he risks isolating himself. To deny your sexual identity is to deny who you are. This can lead to school failure, for example, or worse, to suicide ”estimates the president of the SOS Homophobie association, Joël Deumier.
“This article, ten years old which had never been controversial at the professional level, was above all intended to make our students reflect on the relationship between remedies in the medical field and behavioral symptoms” is justified by Dr. Jean-Yves Henry on his site.
This Wednesday August 15th, 2018, the Swiss Health Professions Supervisory Commission opened an investigation at the request of the Minister of Health of the Canton of Geneva, Mauro Poggia. To be continued…
