The role omega-3in heart protection is confirmed by a new study from the Mayo Clinic in the United States. This meta-analysis looked at 34 clinical trials or standard population studies that investigated the role of EPA and DHA (the two active ingredients in omega-3s) on heart health.
The researchers conclude that omega-3 supplementation reduces the risk of developing a heart disorder by 18%.
For some doctors, there is still some doubt
However, as the American Time magazine, these conclusions are questioned by some doctors who point the finger at the fact that this meta-analysis was funded by a consortium of manufacturers and distributors of food supplements (GOED). The researchers say, however, that the consortium had no say in the findings of their meta-analysis.
Six months ago, another study showed that fatty acids reduced the risk of have a 10% heart attack.
