Texan authorities have adopted a measure forcing abortion centers to finance a funeral rite for fetuses after an abortion.
Forcing women to bury their fetuses after having an abortion? The proposal does not come from an occult sect with esoteric practices. In fact, it is Texas which is preparing to implement such a measure, following in the footsteps of Arkansas, Louisiana or even Indiana.
The American state has in fact adopted a law requiring centers performing abortions to pay for the burial or cremation of fetuses, regardless of the gestation period. In principle, this is treated as biological waste and is not supposed to receive a funeral rite.
Close centers
For Governor Greg Abott, who defended the idea and whose comments are reported by the CNN channel, it is “to give a voice to babies who are not born”. The measure is carried by the social health services and does not therefore require any vote or legislative examination. It will come into force on December 19.
For states in favor of restricted access to abortion, it is a question of further complicating the operation of abortion centers in order to lead to their closure. In 2013, Texas thus adopted a law requiring establishments to acquire an expensive surgical platform for these small structures, condemned to go out of business. The measure thus resulted in the closures of half of the abortion clinics in Texas.
In June, the Supreme Court invalidated this text and reaffirmed the fundamental right of women to decide on the continuation of their pregnancy. With the passage of this new law, associations campaigning in favor of access to abortion are alarmed by an obstacle that risks discouraging women from exercising their right.
