In real life, we don’t confide in our sex life like in Sex & the city. In a study conducted by the European Observatory of Infidelity, in collaboration with Ifop and Gleeden, 63% of the women questioned explained that they could not confide in their marital sexual problems or an infidelity on their part, even to a close friend.
Some subjects are very difficult to broach. This is particularly the case of a dismissal, of which 8% of the 1000 women representative of French society questioned, would have difficulty speaking, even to their closest friend. This is also the case for an illness, which 12% would have great difficulty in tackling, or even depression for 14% of them. When it comes to money issues, 15% find the subject very complicated to tackle.
A still taboo subject
But it is in matters of sexuality that the taboo of discussion is greatest among French women: 63% find the subject difficult, even in friendship. Entrust her extramarital affair ? It would be “very difficult” to talk about it for 34% of them, and “quite difficult” for 29% of them.
According to some comparative surveys in Europe, French women are the most reluctant to confide in questions of sexuality. 59% of Italians also think that this subject is difficult to broach in friendship, Germans are only 50%, and Spanish women are more free on this type of private subject.
