- Arrived prematurely, the baby weighed only 1.4 kg and was not breathing very well.
- After a few hours, the baby’s condition improved and a medical team took care of the mother and the infant.
This time, the turbulence came from the passengers. On April 28, during a flight between Utah and Hawaii, a young woman had the surprise of her life. A few hours after takeoff, this passenger, whose identity has not filtered, suffered from stomach cramps. It was on going to the bathroom that she realized that she was giving birth when she didn’t even know she was pregnant.
Laces to cut the umbilical cord
In her misfortune, the woman was lucky to have a doctor and three nurses on board the plane, as reported by the washington post. “She had the presence of mind to grab the baby and call for help before she passed out”, told the doctor to the American media. Without an adequate tool, the caregivers used the D system to help the young mother. They cut the umbilical cord using shoelaces, used a smartwatch to monitor his heart rate and a sock as a hat to keep the newborn warm.
The baby was not very healthy at the time of birth. Arrived prematurely, he weighed only 1.4 kg when he came out of his mother’s womb. He wasn’t crying and he wasn’twasn’t breathing very welladded the doctor. The first hour was very delicate. But fortunately […] his color gradually improved, his breathing calmed down and he warmed up.” Upon landing, a medical team immediately took care of the mother and her baby.
Denial of pregnancy, a still mysterious phenomenon
Denial of pregnancy affects between 800 and 2,000 women each year. This condition is all the more difficult to detect as the body continues to function “normally”: no common pregnancy-related symptoms such as interrupted periods or morning sickness occur. The fetus grows, but the belly does not grow until the woman is aware of its condition. The blows in the belly given by the baby are thus often taken for stomach cramps. Classified among the disorders of psychic gestation, the denial of pregnancy remains a mysterious phenomenon of medicine still poorly understood. However, the women who are victims of it meet particular criteria which can make it possible to emit tracks on the possible causes of a denial of pregnancy.
