What is happening at La Poste? According to an investigation carried out by our colleagues at RTL, in the space of only 3 years, 9 mail carriers committed suicide and 5 others were barely saved after suicide attempts that took place at their place of work.
Independent experts, appointed by the Health and Safety Committees (CHSCT) of the Post Office, decided to alert the government to the social situation deemed “worrying” in the company. These experts mention in particular a “deterioration in the state of health of the agents”, linked to several internal reorganizations – the regroupings of sorting centers, in particular.
The families of the victims point to the working conditions of La Poste employees. The son of one of the victims, interviewed by RTL, said: “we added mailboxes to him and he could no longer keep pace. We saw throughout his career that he was at the end of the line. “His father, in a letter written shortly before his desperate act, declared:” they have totally destroyed me “. The accusation clearly targeted the company: he had been a postman for 34 years.
Between 20% and 40% of tours would be “untenable”
According to RTL, the problem lies above all at the IT level: the software which calculates the letter carriers’ routes does not take into account traffic difficulties, road signs, the time required to climb the floors and exchange a few words with the users. … According to some experts, between 20% and 40% of the routes thus calculated by computer would be “untenable” …
Contacted by RTL, the management of La Poste responded with a press release: the company says “does not recognize itself in these situations of discomfort” and ensures that it devotes each year “more than 30 million euros to health and occupational safety ”.
