Kate Gillespie, 24, from Portsmouth, UK, was diagnosed with achalasia two years ago. Achalasia is a rare sickness the causes of which are unknown. It is a motor disorder in which the esophagus does not relax during food intake, preventing food from reaching the stomach. Instead, food gets stuck in the throat and then is vomited out.

But he was really big and I was so relieved and happy!” added the Briton. Charlie is now 15 months old and in good health. He has a healthy appetite and keeps his food safe in his belly!

The five-hour procedure involved surgeons cutting fibers from Kate’s stomach so it was constantly open so food could head straight down. The young woman still suffers from achalasia, because the disease cannot be completely cured. His esophagus still doesn’t grow food as well as it should, but if she drinks plenty of water with every meal, it’s ok…
