100% of nursing students will benefit from an internship, despite the boycott of private clinics. The French Hospital Federation (FHF) has succeeded but recognizes a “crisis. “
All nursing students will have an internship, the Minister of Health Marisol Touraine said on March 3 on Europe 1. Most private clinics have suspended nursing internships to protest against the drop in prices. This threat carried out this 1er mars caught the French Hospital Federation (FHF), contacted by why actor. But all of the affected students were able to benefit from an internship in the public sector, says Cécile Kanitzer, paramedical advisor at the FHF.
What is your reaction to the threat of private clinics?
Cecile Kanitzer : What outraged us is that an internship is usually planned in advance. Some internships in March have been planned since 2013, agreements have been signed. We find it deeply scandalous that internships have been refused at 1er March for conventions signed several months ago. It’s really taking students hostage and breaking commitments.
Did you manage to reassign all the students?
Cecile Kanitzer : We had to urgently reassign 9,400 students, but the public sector has the capacity to fulfill all of the training missions. All students will be supported in the public. What is complicated is to work in a hurry. In some specialties, inevitably, it was necessary to put a few students in excess. It is difficult to respect the consistency of training courses, especially for those at the end of their studies. Some will not have the professionalization internship they wanted, because we had to assign them where it was possible. This is where they are doubly taken hostage.
In addition, there is an uneven regional application: the movement of private clinics is fully followed in some regions, in others most of the student nurses already affected have been able to stay on internship, the decisions applied to future agreements only. . In some areas, the situation is delicate. Because some students have limited means, they have chosen internships close to the family home. They were sometimes reassigned to places a little further away …
How will nursing internships evolve?
Cecile Kanitzer : We realized that a fairly large proportion of internships take place in private clinics. Today, we consider that this “crisis” has revealed to us a point of weakness that we will have to respond to. We are now going to carry out long-term action to strengthen the internship lines and strengthen the tutorial systems to guarantee a wider quality of practical training.
