Penetrations
Both vaginal and anal penetrations performed without condom present a high risk of contamination by the AIDS virus and all STIs.
When there is vaginal or anal penetration, the mucous membranes of the glans, vagina, or anus are in contact with the sexual secretions of the partner (pre-seminal fluid, vaginal secretions, blood in the event of anal penetration) . “The most risky practice is sodomy with ejaculation for the person being penetrated. Then vaginal penetration for the woman if the man is sick ”recalls Catherine Solano, doctor, sexologist.
Ejaculation or the presence of blood (during menstruation, first sex, or when sex is forced) can also increase the risk of transmission.
Oral relations
It is recommended that you do not brush your teeth before oral sex, as you may irritate your gums and create a contact area for the virus to enter.
The fellatio performed without a condom presents a very low risk of being infected with the AIDS virus for both partners.
But beware, this risk increases as soon as the person performing fellatio suffers from gingivitis, oral sores or STIs located in the mouth (herpes, gonorrhea, syphilips). The virus is transmitted through seminal fluid or semen that comes into contact with the lining of the mouth. It is therefore strongly recommended not to swallow the semen of an unscreened partner. However, these practices can transmit other STIs such as herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, papillomavirus or hepatitis B.
Cunnilingus
the cunnilingus is not considered a risky practice because the AIDS virus is not transmitted through saliva. On the other hand, cunnilingus is a possible mode of transmission for other STIs: hepatitis B, hepatitis C (in case of contact with menstrual blood), syphilis, gonorrhea and papillomavirus. “If there is an almost zero risk of being contaminated by AIDS during cunnilingus, it is recommended to avoid practicing it on an unscreened woman who has her period” recalls Catherine Solano, doctor, sex therapist .
Rimming presents only a low risk of HIV contamination, however this practice promotes the transmission of bacteria, germs or STIs (syphilis, gonorrhea, hepatitis A and intestinal microbes). It is recommended to avoid performing rimming after anal penetration as it can cause bleeding.
Sextoys
Individual use of sextoys is a practice without risk of transmission of the AIDS virus. On the other hand, if the sex toys are put in contact with several people, they must be covered with a condom which must be changed each time they are used.
Totally risk-free practices
Caresses, even prolonged kisses, masturbation solitary or in couple without contact with the sexual secretions do not present any risk of contamination of AIDS.
The recommendations
While it is important to protect yourself during sex with a new partner, it is imperative to get tested and regardless of age. Screening allows you to treat yourself and limit contamination. “Treatments today are very effective, easier to take and have fewer side effects. They allow patients to stay alive and live normally ”recalls Catherine Solano. “Especially since a well-treated HIV-positive person who has an undetectable viral load has an extremely low risk of transmitting the disease,” explains Catherine Solano.
