It is very tempting to take anabolic steroids, especially for building muscle mass. But what is good for the muscles is not necessarily good for the heart and the vessels.
Beware of steroids which are more and more fond of young people, warns a study of the British Cardiovascular Society, because they are dangerous. Health experts are seeing an ever-increasing appetite among young people under 25. These hormones close to testosterone are present in humans as well as in animals or plants. Steroids include cholesterol, sex hormones, glucocorticoids, and aldosterone. They are legal to take, but unless you have a medical prescription, you cannot get one.
Among the findings of the study, we learn that people taking anabolic steroids, that is, those that are close to testosterone, are particularly at risk for health problems like infertility and mood swings.
The whole body suffers
By dint of taking it, the body is in a state of imbalance. Steroids attack different weaknesses in your body: for example, a person with high blood pressure should expect their blood pressure to rise significantly. They are also the allies of LDL cholesterol: after taking steroids, the “bad” cholesterol will increase while the “good”, HDL, will decrease. Thus, anabolic steroids increase the risk of cardiovascular disease significantly. And the list goes on and on: acne, premature baldness, heart failure and arrhythmia, liver damage, development of breast tissue in men, testicular atrophy, infertility, increased hair growth and voice changes for women … So many reasons that alert about the dangerousness of steroids when they are abused.
