The vaccination rate in the Netherlands has fallen to 92%. The House of Representatives is discussing what should be done. Forcing people to get a shot, like in other European countries?
The vaccination rate of children has fallen to 92%. For good protection of the population against serious diseases, it is necessary that at least 95% of children are vaccinated. The House of Representatives is therefore looking for a solution.
Mandatory
The VVD suggested making vaccines mandatory. In other countries, an injection is often also required. In Belgium, children are required to be vaccinated against polio. In France also against diphtheria and tetanus. Italy already had the obligation for these three shots and hepatitis B and is now going to expand this even further. German parents will be fined if they do not go to the child health center with their infant.
flu shot
That all still sounds reasonable when you think of serious diseases such as polio. But it gets more complicated when you draw the line. Which vaccinations should be mandatory and which not? Should people who are 60+ be required to get the flu shot? And 13-year-old girls get the HPV shot that protects against cervical cancer? In both groups, only half get the shot.
