You finally have an appointment with the cardiologist, it turns out he has just come out of school. You prefer an older doctor with more experience. Or does that not matter to you?
“My 91-year-old sister had cataract surgery. By a girl’, writes Koos Postema in his column. “My sister wondered if she had studied long before that. I explained to her how long medical studies last and how heavy they are’, says Koos.
Prefer an older doctor…
So the ‘girl’ is a graduated ophthalmologist. The older you get, the younger the doctors seem, there’s nothing you can do about that. But sometimes you prefer a doctor with a lot of experience. In any case, you have the feeling that he or she can properly assess the complaint with a trained clinical view.
…or rather a younger doctor
But you may prefer a younger doctor equipped with the latest knowledge. The newly graduated class of doctors has had much more training in holding a good conversation. The young doctor will not be shocked by your printed Google papers.
