Would Starlink also work in airplanes? Sure enough, that’s going well and Elon Musk is one step closer to streaming on the plane.
With Starlink, Elon Musk is able to deliver internet virtually everywhere on Earth via a huge satellite network. Now it turns out that the service is not necessarily tied to the Earth itself. Even far above the earth’s crust, internet can be delivered!
Starlink in airplanes
People have a great need for internet on the plane, but that is not as easily said as done. An airplane would have to carry a lot of extra stuff to receive internet so high above the ground. This is currently done with an antenna and satellite internet. Does that sound familiar to you?
It also appears possible with Starlink, writes the Wall Street Journal, now that Delta Air Lines and SpaceX have tested how the service works on planes. It all seems to go well and apparently without too much extra weight for the plane.
Elon Musk has been talking about the Internet service for aircraft for over a year. He has since received approval from the US FCC. Now the last hurdle is the airline federation in the United States. They also have to give permission before Starlink can offer the internet service in aircraft. It is then up to airlines to purchase Starlink.
