4.07 million euros to finance research against AIDS. Although slightly down compared to the 2016 edition (4.21 million euros collected), donations from Sidaction 2017 have again shown the mobilization and generosity of the French against this disease. If you haven’t had time to think about it, it’s not too late to donate. Donations by phone are still possible until April 12 at 110, or on the internet.
Every year for 23 years, awareness-raising actions have been organized for a whole weekend, including this year a special program on France 2. As the 2017 slogan reminds us, “despite many victories, the fight is not over. ended “.
Still too many received ideas
Many received ideas still circulate on this disease at the same time known to all, and unknown. 22% of French people think that there are medicines to cure it. However, if the triple therapy allowed patients not to die quickly, it is not synonymous with cure. In addition, it is a heavy and restrictive treatment, with many side effects. A survey by the IFOP (French Institute of Public Opinion) recalls that the entire population is concerned: young and old. The former show themselves to be more concerned and attentive to dangers than the general population. Even so, they still need information: one in five young people believe that you can get HIV from just a kiss. Another need: push for screening: only a small half of young people are tested after unprotected intercourse.
Awareness is one of Sidaction’s missions, along with research (39 projects and 55 young researchers supported in 2016), and patient support (101 patient support actions funded).
