Siklos is a medicine prescribed for patients with sickle cell anemia symptomatic, to prevent recurrent painful attacks. It comes in two different forms: Siklos 1000 mg and Siklos 100 mg. These two drugs have different colored box packaging (gold and red respectively) and different tablets: 100 mg scored tablet with the letter “H” engraved for “hundred” and 1000 mg tablet of larger size, quadrisisable with the letter “T” for “thousand”.
Risks of serious side effects
But despite these differences, several medication errors have been reported to the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) and in particular errors in the delivery of the 1000 mg form instead of the 100 mg, which could have resulted in effects. serious adverse reactions to patients.
Only pediatricians, internists and hematologists can prescribe Siklos to patients for the first time. But the renewal of the prescription is not restricted and can be done by the general practitioner. Also the ANSM remind doctors :
-
to mention on the prescription the weight, the age of the patient as well as the dosage of Siklos
to specify to the patient the dosage of Siklos in order to limit the risks of confusion between the 2 dosages.
