According to the association Dare Feminism (which conducted a survey in 2018 among 2286 women aged 18 to 80), 87% of French women have already “been embarrassed by the behavior of a health professional”. A quarter of the women questioned also say that they have suffered “at least once to gestures or words with a sexual connotation in the context of a medical consultation”. And 1 in 10 women even admit having undergone sexual penetration against their will as part of a medical examination …
“The objective is (…) that we are respected in our dignity”
On the occasion of International Women’s Day (to be held on March 8, 2019), the Osez le Féminisme association will launch a national campaign entitled “To our health, for feminist health for girls and women. “. Events and round tables will be organized in several cities in France, the association announced this Thursday, February 28, 2019.
Several questions will be addressed: “what care in the face of psychotraumatic mechanisms caused by male violence? “,” What policies to combat aggressors among health professionals? “(Which refers in particular to obstetric and gynecological violence),” what place for girls and women in medical research? “.
“The objective is that we are no longer in danger when we need care, that we are respected in our dignity” explained the coordinator, Cécile Werey.
