Comedian and actor Seth Green saw four NFTs disappear from his digital collection last month. Bored Ape “Fred” is now back home.
Seth Green was the victim of a hacker and saw four of his valuable NFTs for sale on the World Wide Web. He begged on his bare knees on Twitter not to pay for these stolen goods. Now is Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT #8398 safely back home with Seth, but whether “Fred Simian”, as Green has called this bored monkey, came home voluntarily is open to question.
More at stake
It wasn’t just about owning the Bored Ape in this case. Seth Green was working on an animated series called White House Tavern, in which many characters from different NFT projects play a role. Bored Ape #8398 plays an important role in his series. Seth showed the trailer below at Gary Vaynerchuk’s NFT convention.
So there was more at stake than just owning the NFT. If Green didn’t get his Bored Ape back, he couldn’t use the monkey’s image in his show either. The NFT holder has a license to the IP address of the monkey.
mr. cheese
The bored monkey in question had since found a new home with an NFT collector hidden behind the name Mr. cheese. He paid about $200,000 for the NFT and had no intention of returning it to Mr. Green. mr. Cheese claimed that at the time of purchase, he was unaware that the Bored Ape was stolen goods.
Ransom
Everything can be bought with money. Especially when there are even more business interests at stake. So Seth Green pulled the digital wallet and took 65 Ether to Mr. Cheese sent. At the time of the transaction, it was worth about $297 thousand. So the healer earns almost a ton in dollars in a few weeks! That is the return on your investment.
All’s well that ends well. Bored Ape “Fred” is home safely, Seth Green has his monkey back, and NFT collector Mr. Cheese has earned six outs in a very short time. And we? We can finally sleep peacefully again now that Fred is back home.
