The company Froidevaux Cornuet has indicated that it is recalling the dairy products “Pur brebis du Lochois” after having detected the salmonella bacterium during a self-check.
“Pur brebis du Lochois” cheeses must no longer be consumed and removed from the shelves of their points of sale.
This was reported on Saturday July 20 the company Froidevaux Cornuet after having, during a self-check, highlighted the bacterium Salmonella Enteritidis.
What products are affected?
The cheeses concerned are “Lactic sheep’s cheeses with raw milk”, “Lactic sheep’s cheeses with thyme with raw milk” and “Faisselle de brebis”, packaged in plastic pots of 200g or 400g, said the company Froidevaux Cornuet.
These products, which bear the identification number FR 37 183 031 CE, were sold between May 20 and July 20 “directly at the farm, on the Loches market (Indre-et-Loire) and from retailers (cheese makers) or wholesalers who ensure the distribution at the national level”.
According to Froidevaux Cornuet, “human cases of salmonellosis potentially in epidemiological relationship” have been identified. “People who hold these products are therefore asked not to consume them and to return them to the point of sale where they were purchased,” the company continues.
What is Salmonella Enteritidis?
The Salmonella Enteritidis is a serotype of Salmonella Entericathe main cause of salmonella gastroenteritis in humans, and which develops in particular in cattle and pigs.
These bacteria can cause food poisoning, which is characterized by gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhea, vomiting), intestinal cramps, fever and headaches which generally occur between 6 and 72 hours after consumption of the products. contaminated.
Usually, recovery occurs within 4-7 days, without requiring treatment. However, the infection can be serious and even fatal for the elderly or sick as well as for infants.
People who have consumed potentially contaminated cheeses and who present these symptoms are therefore invited to consult a doctor without delay.
No worries, however, if no symptoms are seen within 7 days of eating any of the affected products.
