Conservationists have been waiting for this announcement for a long time. It is on the set of 12/13 of France 3 Sunday June 14 that Ségolène Royal expressed his desire to ban the sale of Roundup from garden centers open to individuals. “France must be on the offensive on stopping pesticides in gardens,” she said on the France 3 set. Starting with the limitation of Roundup, a very powerful weedkiller marketed by the giant American Monsanto. This ban would not affect farmers but only the general public.
A product suspected of being carcinogenic and harmful to the environment
Roundup was in the spotlight after the classification in March of glyphosate, its active ingredient, as “probable human” carcinogen, although “evidence is limited”, by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
Several international studies have concluded on the carcinogenic potential of this herbicide. According to experts at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (Iarc), there is “limited” evidence that certain substances such as glyphosate, malathion and diazinon play a role in the development of non-Hogkin lymphomas, cancers which affect the immune system.
In addition, in 2014, a american study accused Roundup of being behind the increase in gluten intolerance and celiac disease.
In 2014, Professor Séralini (already author of a Controversial Monsanto GMO Corn Study) of the University of Caen had already questioned pesticides. He concluded that their toxicity was underestimated and would actually be 100 to a thousand times greater than what is displayed, due to the many adjuvants.
