Han from Fast & Furious has started his next project
Fifty trips from our globe around the sun ago, the Datsun 240Z – complete with studded tires and floodlights – won the East African Safari Rally. Nissan celebrates itself by converting a Juke to rally spec, but Fast & Furiousstar and all-round car hero Sung Kang has completely overshadowed that. Some people know him better as Han, the nut nibbler who can’t even be killed by Jason Statham.
Above you can see his project called DocZ. It’s an off-road restomod, obviously with plenty of inspiration from the winning car from 1971. The Datsun 240Z rally car is so good that Nissan is bringing the project to SEMA this year to show it off. It is not the first 240Z that Sung Kang takes care of. He previously restored and modified a brown copy. This one is now white, heavily upgraded with a Rocketbunny kit and has the RB26 engine from a Nissan Skyline.
The 240z is also from 1971 and already had East African Safari Rally livery, but the car was broken and full of rust spots. The car is now fully restored and built up better. The original L24 engine was chosen as the engine, but it will be drilled out to 2.8 liters. A modified head, triple Webers and a nice exhaust should ensure healthy power.
Not only the body of the Datsun 240Z rally car is new
The suspension of the Datsun 240Z rally car is new, as are the brakes. The 16-inch wheels are a tribute to the Kobe Seiko wheels that came on the Fairlady Z432. The wheels are fitted with strong Michelin tires and of course there is a spare wheel on the roof. Nice.
