As of Monday, this site will make public the results of official food safety controls carried out in all food establishments.
The hour of transparency has sounded in French kitchens! But also in canteens, slaughterhouses and caterers, etc. From Monday April 3, consumers have access to the results of health checks carried out since March 1, 2017 in all establishments in the food chain.
All these data are published on the application Food trust for smartphones running on iOS, Android or Windows Phone and on.
The Ministry of Agriculture welcomes this transparency and presents it as “a legitimate expectation of citizens which contributes to improving consumer confidence”.
How to do your research?
The data is presented on an interactive map of France allowing the establishment to be searched by name or address. The user can also filter the category of establishment sought or simply browse the map.
The data displayed are the name of the establishment, the date of the last inspection and the level of hygiene. For slaughterhouses, this is a level of sanitary control of the establishment since the result of the control also concerns compliance with animal protection standards.
Every day, new results of official controls are added and remain visible for a period of one year after the date of completion of the control. The level of hygiene in production and processing establishments is also accessible by entering the approval number (health stamp).
Different smileys
To be understood by as many people as possible, the statements relating to each level of hygiene are presented with different smileys. The face is smiling for a very satisfactory level of hygiene, that is to say when the establishments do not present any non-compliance, or only present minor non-conformities.
Conversely, the smiley pout for a level of hygiene to be corrected urgently. In this case, the establishments present non-conformities likely to endanger the health of the consumer and for which the administrative authority orders the administrative closure, withdrawal or suspension of the sanitary approval.
Finally, the Ministry of Agriculture reminds direct delivery establishments (restaurants, catering trades, distributors) and collective catering that they also have the possibility of displaying their level of hygiene in the establishment on their storefront.
In Europe: 8 countries (United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Norway) have already made the results of their checks transparent and 2 plan to do so (Germany, Sweden ).
