After the drama, questions. Those of a family that does not understand why one of its own died at the age of 49 when nothing suggested it. Guillaume Molinet simply participated in a clinical trial in Rennes which led to his hospitalization and then his death on Sunday January 17. Five other volunteers who took part in the BIA 10-2474 molecule trial at the Bial laboratory were also hospitalized but were subsequently able to return to their homes.
In The Parisian, Guillaume’s brother says: “I tried to dissuade him from going. My feeling told me that it was not good”. Father of four children, the one who called himself Arthur Diesel when he sang with his brother, nevertheless chose to participate in the trial “to help science”. Initially, says Laurent Molinet, he was to be “substitute or joker”. One of the incumbents has failed for medical reasons, Guillaume will take his place.
And the tragedy unfolds. After five days of testing the molecule, Guillaume was hospitalized at the Rennes University Hospital. “We saw immediately that it was very serious”, testifies Laurent, who goes to the bedside of his brother on January 13. But the doctors indicate that he “still has brain activity”.
The facts are accelerating. “The next day, continues Laurent, we were told of his brain death”. Clinical death will be confirmed on Sunday.
How to explain that relatives were notified so late, why did the health authorities authorize this test? To obtain answers, Guillaume’s family filed a complaint against X at the health center of the Paris tribunal de grande instance. His lawyer is holding a press conference this Friday to discuss the gray areas of this tragedy.
