The raspberry would have many health virtues, according to the conclusions of six studies presented at the San Diego Biology Congress (USA). It would be a powerful natural anti-inflammatory. Rich in fiber, it would reduce the risk ofobesity as well as chronic diseases, cardiovascular illnessesof diabetesand of Alzheimer’s disease. All six studies were conducted on mice.
Researchers from the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at Texas Woman’s University (USA) observed that polyphenols contained in raspberries act on the production of bone cells, an action that is also anti-inflammatory.
Researchers at the University of Washington found that raspberry could regulate blood sugar levels and improve metabolic syndrome in obese male mice.
Scientists from the Department of Food and Nutrition at the University of Texas also noticed an improvement in mice obese diabetics with cardiac abnormalities.
The health benefits of raspberries
Rich in vitamin Cthe raspberry is one of the fruits best provided with iron (0.7 mg per 100 g), essential for red blood cells.
An excellent source of minerals, raspberries contain potassium, magnesium and a high level of calcium. Its high fiber content makes it an effective remedy for better intestinal transit.
While these findings are encouraging, they need to be validated in humans.
